Benjamin, an amazing micro-preemie, was born at 23 weeks and 3 days gestation on February 7th, 2011 – weighing in at 1 lbs, 12 oz. He is a real fighter and has beaten so many odds already, including PPROM at 19 weeks gestation.

My name is Allie and I am a micro preemie mom.

Anastasia was born at 25 weeks gestation (15 weeks early) after I experienced PROM (Premature Rupture of the Membranes) at 20 weeks into the pregnancy. Anastasia weighed a mere 1 lb. 13 oz. That made her an extreme (or micro) preemie.

My daughter was born less than a month later after a stint of hospital bedrest, during which they never gave me enough sausage for breakfast, and after which I will never again take for granted the luxury of wearing clothes that do not tie in the back. Simone spent 96 days in the NICU and almost died, but in the end, she didn’t.

I’m P and my husband is S. Together we have had a very exciting couple of years, battling infertility, a very complicated pregnancy and a preterm birth.

After my son was born 14 weeks premature, my husband and I were desperately searching for any information or resources out there for parents of preemies. His Middle Name has been started with the hopes of creating a sense of community among parents of premature children while providing advocacy, education and awareness and most importantly, a source of inspiration and hope.

I began this blog as a way to tell the story of the preemie journey of our son, born at 28 weeks gestation. It has become a chronicle of sorts, a way to process my impressions of everyday life, of being a wife and mother, of working and playing, loving and believing.

I’m a Mom to 4 children here and 2 in Heaven! Liam is a surviving twin micro-preemie born at 24 weeks/0 days weighing 1 lb 5 oz at birth. In 2007 we were shocked to learn we were having twin girls and if that wasn’t crazy enough we only had 6 weeks to prepare (if that’s even possible). Yes, you heard me right they decided to make their grand entrance at 26 weeks. Then in 2009 we decided to make life a little more exciting and we welcomed Emmitt Vaughan to join us. Though life has been a roller coaster we wouldn’t have it any other way!
