Every year on the first Sunday in May, we celebrate Parents of Preemies Day around the world, and the celebrations range from community-wide events to NICU events open to parents of current patients to preemie parent meetups. All Parents of Preemies Day events are free and open to the public because our goal is to both help friends and family of preemie parents and the larger community understand what it means to be a parent of a premature baby or child and to give preemie parents the opportunity to connect with one another.
All Parents of Preemies Day events are volunteer managed, and it is up to the event organizers to secure a location, provide brunch, drive attendance through community outreach, and manage day-of coordination. Organizers also coordinate speakers, exhibitors, entertainment, press invitations, and activities. For community events, in the weeks leading up to Parents of Preemies Day, Graham’s Foundation provides support in the form of media materials, event registration coordination, and assistance in reaching event partners.
