Father’s Day – a day when we celebrate our dads, granddads, uncles, father figures, and friends.
For dads of preemies, their journey into parenthood was possibly quite different than that of their friends. They had to experience the early birth of their child – a child they longed for. They had to watch as their child was taken to the NICU before ever getting to hold their child. Instead of experiencing a delivery full of joy and excitement, they experienced a delivery that is scary and unknown.
Dads of preemies are often caught in the difficult position of caring for their partner who has just given birth and wanting to parent their child in the NICU. They find themselves caring for multiple individuals while trying to cope with the reality of having a premature child. Dads find themselves in a position of having to be strong when they often feel helpless and weak.
To preemie dads on this Father’s Day, we honor you. We honor all you do for your family.
To preemie dads on this Father’s Day who are grieving a child they lost, we honor you. We remember your beautiful child.
To all preemie dads, we honor you. We honor your strength, your courage, your support, your guidance, and your love.
